Citizenship Ceremonies

York welcomed our two newest Australian Citizens at the Australia Day Breakfast on 26 January 2006 - Michael & Rita Taylor

The Shire of York conducts Citizenship Ceremonies at various times throughout the year to acknowledge this important step in many people's lives.

Applying for Citizenship

  • Applications are processed by the Department of Immigration & Multi Cultural Affairs – telephone: 13 18 80
  • Applications are available from the Department of Immigration & Multi Cultural Affairs and also from Australia Post
  • All correspondence gets sent to the Department of Immigration & Multi Cultural Affairs – who handle all application forms

Ceremonies

  • If your application is approved, your signed certificate is sent to the Shire of York
  • The Shire of York will then contact you to make arrangements to hold the ceremony eg: date, time, venue
  • Generally the Shire of York likes to hold the ceremonies at a Council Meeting, however if you would prefer a private ceremony other arrangements can be made

Eligibility for Citizenship

The grant of citizenship resides with the Department of Immigration & Multi Cultural Affairs. The Council is not involved in any part of the decision making.
