Ballardong Noongar Six Seasons Garden Walk

Created in consultation with the local Ballardong Noongar community, a meandering path takes you on a short walk through remnant bush now being renewed with native trees and plants, many labelled with their Noongar, botanical and common names.

Ceramic ‘rocks’ made by students of York District High School line the path, depicting the names of the six seasons and animals traditionally important to the Noongar people.

Symbolic stone ‘camp circles’ represent local Noongar families who live here or have lived here in the past, with central paintings on rocks by Aboriginal artists Noongali [Dennis Kickett] and Philip Narkle.

This project was funded through Wheatbelt NRM [formerly Avon Catchment Council] small grants scheme and the Shire of York.
