JOAQUINA STREET UPGRADES TO COMMENCE

In the coming weeks the Shire of York will be resurfacing the asphalt on Joaquina Street providing much needed repairs to the road surface. While this is being done the Shire is taking the opportunity to install additional street trees and low maintenance garden beds to improve amenity in the street.

Works will include:
- Removing and replacing the asphalt road surface on the street;
- Installing red asphalt to delineate car parking bays similar to Avon Terrace;
- Planting 4 new Jacaranda trees in newly created low maintenance garden beds in the street. Water pipes will be installed under the road to irrigate the trees and garden beds;
- The old asphalt footpaths on the sides of the roads will also be replaced with red brick paving similar to that around the CBD; and
- Car parking bays for people with a disability and the bus bay will be remarked at the same time.

“Unfortunately, one old gum tree which is growing through the power lines will need to be removed as part of the works. The Shire hopes the installation of four new Jacaranda trees in the street will offset this unavoidable loss” Shire President Cr Wallace said.

The works are planned to commence at the end of March and will take approximately two weeks. There will be some impacts upon traffic movements during this time however the road will be mostly open for local traffic.
Copies of the plans of the works are available on the Shire’s website www.york.wa.gov.au  or at the Shire Offices.
