The Avon River Festival is getting a makeover and is now the ‘Northam Bilya Festival’!
Held every year on the eve of the iconic Avon Descent weekend, the Festival not only marks Northam as the race start line, but acknowledges and celebrates the significance of the Avon River on Nyoongar Ballardong country ~ ‘bilya’ [river] ‘koort’ [heart] ‘boodja’ [country]’.

12 noon – 8pm Avon Descent boat registrations in Bernard Park car park. Check out all the different boats that will be racing!
5pm Illuminated ‘Makuru’ Bilya Koort Boodja Centre Garden
6pm – 7pm ‘River’ Community Street Parade
6.45pm – 8pm Ballardong Cultural Ceremony + Avon Descent Race Blessing + Launch of the ‘Northam Suspension Bridge Precinct Activation Project’.
8-10pm Family Fun Entertainment:
– Sideshow alley on the Village Green
– Free marshmallow toasting around BKB Centre Garden fire pit
– Support local and BYO takeaway picnic!
