Site Seeing in York at the York Courthouse Complex

Past Event

FREE ENTRY: The National Trust York Courthouse Complex is an architecturally impressive collection of buildings telling the story of law, order, policing and injustice. There is a lot to discover in the maze of buildings, from the lofty grandeur of the main court room to the stark confines of the prison cells.  If only these walls could talk!

Construction began in 1852 driven by fear and isolation, the need for control and to uphold colonial law and order.  Stories here tell of the dislocation of Aboriginal people, the convict experience and how a system supported some but disadvantaged most.  View archaeological material found on site or read graffiti left by inmates while the children have fun with dress ups, activities and games in the Troopers' Cottage.

The event is proudly supported by Lotterywest.

Sunday 2nd May, 9th May and 16th May .
