Concern over Uncontrolled Dogs

Published on Monday, 8 June 2020 at 9:57:10 AM

A pet peeve for many York residents and the Shire, is the number of dogs roaming unattended and being walked without a leash. Whilst the majority of dog owners are doing the right thing, there are still a number of people who continue to put public safety at risk by failing to keep their dog in a properly enclosed yard or on a leash.

The Shire of York ranger is now targeting wandering dogs in an attempt to change the behaviours of offending dog owners.

Dog owners are reminded that if your dog is impounded, you may be liable for impound fees and daily sustenance fees.  In addition, there is a penalty of up to $200 payable for dogs off the leash.

So please, avoid the emotional and financial stress that comes with a wandering dog and make sure it is in a well fenced yard, put your pet on a lead when you go for a walk or run and use the designated dog exercise areas.
