The Shire of York is undertaking a review of its Community Engagement policy and practice. Community Engagement provides the opportunity for the community input into Shire projects and processes and helps Council make informed decisions and deliver better services.
The most recent Community Scorecard in June 2021 showed that York residents would like the Shire to communicate more effectively. As part of the review we would like know how you want to receive information from and be consulted by the Shire. We invite you to participate in our public survey and the Have Your Say Day sessions so your views can be heard. The survey takes approximately 3 minutes to complete and is available here, in paper copy at the Have Your Say Day sessions and in the Shire Office.
The results of the survey and public sessions will inform the development of a Community Engagement Framework. The Framework will:
- Establish a standard process for community engagement
- Ensure that the process is implemented by Shire staff and external consultants employed by the Shire
- Ensure that inclusive and efficient consultation is undertaken at all times
- Ensure that the community is kept informed of decisions emanating from community engagement.
CEO Chris Linnell says ‘Community members are encouraged watch out for the survey and attend a Have Your Say Day session to contribute to this important project designed to ensure Council has the opportunity to consider the input of the widest range of community members before making decisions.’
