YORK WASTE STATION REJECTING OUT OF SHIRE WASTE

Published on Thursday, 2 June 2022 at 12:31:28 PM

Twenty-one local government areas surrounding Perth have been placed under a Quarantine Area Notice (QAN) to restrict movement of wood and green waste from their properties.  This is due to the risk of spread of the Polyphagous Shot-hole Borer.

The Department of Primary Industries has been testing the waste at the York Waste Station and so far, York is free of this pest.

The decision has been taken to reject any green waste brought in from outside the Shire of York to reduce the risk of the borer spreading to the York area.  Establishment of this pest in WA would have significant impact on amenity trees, native vegetation, and the fruit and nut tree industries.

Please note that you may be asked to confirm that your green waste is from your York property when you next visit the Waste Station.  We appreciate your patience with this extra check that needs to be done.
