Cultural Heritage Master Plan

Thanks to funding from Lotterywest, York has a Draft Cultural Heritage Interpretation Master Plan.  York, with its beautiful natural assets, is the traditional home to the Ballardong Noongar people.

The town was established in 1831 and is Western Australia’s oldest inland town. It has an Historic Town classification and retains much of its Victorian and Federation architecture, giving the town a distinct character.  All these aspects are essential considerations when planning how to interpret the area’s heritage within the public realm, for example on the recently installed street wastebins.

This Plan is intended to provide a framework to develop interpretation projects that identify innovative ways to present key messages and themes, whilst allowing site-specific stories to be communicated. Consultation with the York community has taken place during the formation of the Draft Plan and further comment is invited from York residents.
