Council’s Library is located inside Council’s Administration building at 1 Joaquina Street.

Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm
(Closed Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays)

This is a free service and membership is free.

All that is required to become a member of the Public Library is details such as name, address, phone number and the signature of the applicant. This is then entered onto Council’s system. Any changes to your current details must be provided to our Customer Service Officers.

Please note that if any items are damaged this will then become the borrowers responsibility to reimburse for the damaged item.

Council has access to Library and Information Service of Western Australia (LISWA). As part of this service, members have access to over 2.3 million items held in libraries throughout Western Australia. Requests can be made for library books that are not in stock.

The Shire of York Library has access to a number of important online resources that provide a wealth of information to our ratepayers just by using your library barcode. Online resources that York Library members can link to are as follows:

Library catalogue

The Shire of York library catalogue allows you to search for what you're looking for and reserve items for collection. 

How to search the catalogue

Type a search term (such as title, author, keyword) into the catalogue search box and click "search".  For example, if you're interested in the history of the Shire of York, you might type in "shire of york history".  Once you click on search, the different items available will appear.

Manage your library account online

Once you’re a Shire of York library member, you can easily manage your account online by signing in to the member area.

Simply by typing in your library card barcode and your password, you can:

  • Manage your current loans or overdue items
  • Create reserve lists
  • Create and share your personal reading lists
  • Build interests profiles and browse items suggested for you
  • Update your contact details and account preferences

Storytime

Council currently runs Storytime on Tuesday mornings for preschoolers and younger children from 9.30am, which the children thoroughly enjoy. This consists of stories being read and activities being conducted.
