Update for the week – 8 May 2020

Published on Friday, 8 May 2020 at 6:00:00 PM

This week has seen 7 consecutive days with no new cases detected in Western Australia and only 11 active cases in the state.  Council’s focus now is on planning for the road to recovery.

YORK BUSINESS SURVEY – The road to recovery

The Shire recognises the extraordinary efforts of local businesses to continue trading and operating, keeping staff employed and helping to lift the spirits of customers throughout this global pandemic. Thank you.

With recovery planning well underway, the Shire needs local businesses input to help us build an overall picture of the York business situation. This information will be an essential part of the road back to reopening York.

YORKIND

The second round of YORKIND calls has been taking place this week.  We are still getting requests from people who normally would have family or friends to help them with wood chopping and who are struggling with this currently. If anyone is feeling strong and able and has a few hours to spare to assist with wood chopping, please contact the team at YORKIND on 9641 1301.

STRATEGIC COMMUNITY PLAN - COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

The draft Strategic Community Plan is available for public comment until 29 May. Everyone is encouraged to visit the Shire website and review the plan. The plan can be found front and centre on the Shire homepage. https://www.york.wa.gov.au/

While we are working on a 10-year plan, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has created an immediate priority.  Council has already resolved a 0% in the dollar rate increase and frozen fees & charges for the 2020/21 Budget period.

With this public consultation, we are requesting your ideas on how we could support and invest in our businesses’ and community’s immediate needs by creating stimulus through projects, events or community initiatives.  We need your assistance in identifying what those priorities are.

To summarise, we are asking for you to provide two views:

  • Does the Draft Strategic Community Plan accurately reflect your vision for the future of York?
  • How could we immediately align funds and prioritise projects to support recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic in the 2020/21 Budget?

Please send your comments to: CEO@york.wa.gov.au
