Information Collection Notice
When you contact the Shire of York, the Shire generally retains the information you provide for a long period under its General Retention and Disposal Authority for Local Government and in accordance with the State Records Act 2000. Some of that information may be ‘personal information’, for example your or someone else’s name, contact details, location, economic, cultural or social identity: see Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA) (PRIS Act).
The Shire is aware of the privacy principles reflected in the PRIS Act. However, because of the diverse reasons that people contact the Shire, we cannot give advice in categorical terms in advance that covers all circumstances, concerning the use that may be made of the information provided in person, via phone or email, and whether and to whom that information might be disclosed. This depends from case to case on the purpose and the context for people contacting the Shire. For example, if an email tells the Shire about a safety or security concern, the information might need to be provided to a State or Commonwealth agency with appropriate responsibility. The Shire of York is the ‘IPP entity’ under the PRIS Act for the purposes of any provision of personal information by you to us.
