The Shire of York is seeking a motivated and community-focused Environmental Health Technician to join our Development Services team on a 12-month maximum term contract. Working under the guidance of an Authorised Environmental Health Officer, you will play a hands-on role in supporting inspections, investigations and public health initiatives that protect and enhance the wellbeing of our residents and visitors. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable local government experience while contributing to meaningful community outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and assessments of food businesses, public buildings, accommodation premises and other regulated facilities under supervision.
  • Undertake water sampling of recreational and commercial sites, interpret results and assist with follow-up actions as required.
  • Assist in investigating and resolving public and environmental health matters in accordance with relevant legislation and Shire policies.
  • Support the assessment of development and event applications to ensure compliance with public health standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare reports and assist with environmental health programs, projects and stakeholder liaison activities.

 

Remuneration:

The salary for the position is offered in accordance with Level 5 of the Shire of York Inside Staff Industrial Agreement 2025 ($83,702.22 – 87,537.47). Placement within the range will be determined by the applicant’s skills and experience.
