Call for Expressions of Interest - Shire of York Access & Inclusion Advisory Group

Published on Tuesday, 28 February 2023 at 2:53:44 PM

The Shire of York recognises that many people in our community experience barriers to participation in community life, whilst having valuable contributions to make in ensuring York continues to be a welcoming and thriving Shire.

Community members with diverse lived experiences are invited to nominate to be part of our York Access and Inclusion Advisory Group to help us improve access and inclusion for people who live, work, study and recreate in the Shire of York.

This group is seeking community members who identify as:

  • people living with disability and their families/carers
  • people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds
  • people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds
  • Representatives from peak bodies and sector organisations working in the access and inclusion space

The York Access and Inclusion Advisory Group will provide the Shire with a reference point for eliciting the views of community members who experience barriers to access and inclusion on a range of issues and topics. It is a source of advice on key strategies and plans including the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, CBD Revitalisation Plan and Reconciliation Action Plan.

The York Access and Inclusion Advisory Group will meet on a quarterly basis. The draft Terms of Reference (ToR) for the group are available to view here. The ToR will be finalised by the working group once formed.

The objectives of the group are to:

  • represent community views on access and inclusion matters brought before the Group by Shire Officers
  • raise challenges and opportunities which relate to access and inclusion in the York community; and
  • achieve the best possible range of diverse lived experiences related to access and inclusion to ensure these are presented to Shire Officers during planning and decision making

The nomination period is open from 1 March 2023 to 28 April 2023. Submit your nomination here :
