The Shire of York announces that Chief Executive Officer Chris Linnell has advised Council of his decision to step down, with his final day being Friday, 17 October 2025.

Chris has served as CEO since 2020, leading the organisation through a period of growth and community-focused development. His leadership has been instrumental in enhancing governance, strengthening organisational culture, and delivering key projects that reflect the unique character of York.

Chris said the decision to step down had not been easy, and he took the opportunity to reflect on his time with the organisation and the wider community:

“It’s been an absolute privilege to work alongside such a passionate and committed team, and to serve the York community. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, particularly the projects and services that reflect the spirit of this community and help make York a great place to live, work and visit.

The Shire President, on behalf of Council, acknowledged Mr Linnell’s contributions and thanked him for his dedicated service to the organisation and community.

The process to appoint a new CEO will be conducted in accordance with Schedule 2 of the Local Government (Administration) Regulations 1996 which the Shire adopted in Policy G26. Details about the recruitment process will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.
