Expressions of Interest (EOI) are sought from suitably qualified individuals to be appointed as external members to Council’s Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (the ARIC).
The ARIC is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations to Council regarding financial management, risk management, internal controls, legislative compliance, internal and external audit planning and reporting. We are seeking individuals who can not only assist with the monitoring of the Shire’s governance environment, but also help to identify and drive improvement initiatives which will deliver gains to Council, staff and the wider community.
Further details are available in the EOI Document and the ARIC’s Terms of Reference available via the links or by contacting Vanessa Green, Council & Executive Support Officer on (08) 9641 0500 or records@york.wa.gov.au.
Up to two (2) external members may be appointed to the ARIC. Membership is for a period of two (2) years to align with the local government ordinary election cycle, with members eligible for reappointment. Meetings are held at least quarterly and in-person attendance at meetings is preferred. Section 5.100 of the Local Government Act 1995 enables external members to be paid meeting fees for attending a meeting, including reimbursement of certain expenses in accordance with legislative requirements.
In addition to being members of the ARIC, the Local Government Act Reform is introducing the need for an Independent Presiding Member and/or Deputy Presiding Member of all local government audit, risk and improvement committees. The Shire expects its external members to be appointed to those roles. The current sitting fee adopted by Council for Independent Members is $172 per meeting for the Deputy Presiding Member and $250 for the Presiding Member. For clarity, members are not paid for non-attendance.
In submitting an EOI, as well as completing the Application Form applicants are to provide a recent CV and a cover letter detailing:
- Their background, experience and qualifications relevant to the Terms of Reference, including as Presiding Member and/or Deputy Presiding Member of other audit, risk and improvement committees.
- Their previous experience or involvement in local government, community organisations or committees relevant to the Terms of Reference, including as Presiding Member and/or Deputy Presiding Member.
- Their motivation for joining the committee.
- Their ability to commit to meeting attendance.
EOIs are to be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer and can be emailed to records@york.wa.gov.au (preferred), posted to PO Box 22, York WA 6302 or hand delivered to the Shire Administration Office, 1 Joaquina Street, York WA 6302.
EOIs must be received by no later than 12.00pm (WST) on Friday 29 August 2025.
