On 5 March 2025, the Shire of York was advised by the Senior State Prosecutor of their intention to discontinue the matter of The State of WA v Garratt & Garratt regarding the York CRC. The Shire of York requested a review of this decision. On 19 March, following the review, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions advised that a final decision had been reached and the case would be discontinued. While the DPP has discontinued the previous charges, the WA Police investigation remains open and ongoing.
While the Shire is disappointed with this outcome, we are proud that over the past year we have continued delivering this essential CRC service for our community. We’ve built strong relationships with DPIRD, RDA Wheatbelt, Lumen Regional Study Hubs, Services Australia, and many other service providers and community members. We've also been able to provide sustainable positions and welcome some new faces to our dedicated Community team.
The Shire is looking forward to another fantastic year at the CRC.
